Hints and Tips for RIB Users

Mailspeed Marine Charter 2.3M Inflatable Dinghy

Getting Ashore from a RIB

There are many ways to get ashore from a RIB, from the sublime to the ridiculous. An ideal way to get ashore is to use a standard inflatable dinghy. Ideally, this should be small enough to deflate and stow in a locker onboard your RIB, eg the Mailspeed Marine 2.3M inflatable dinghy.

Anchoring a RIB on a Trot

Alternative, you can anchor your RIB on a trot. This simple technique involves using your normal anchor, chain and warp, with an additional rope that will be led ashore. Set up the anchor on the bow of your RIB, as illustrated in the picture below:

The RIB is then pushed off shore while the rope being used as a trot is held (see loop of rope at the left of the picture). Once in sufficient depth of water the anchor is given a sharp tug with the trot. Once the RIB has settled the trot can be secured to a stone on the beach. Three ply Nylon rope is ideal because it is inexpensive and sinks, which prevent people and other RIBs getting tangled up.

Getting Back Onboard your RIB from the water

Getting back onboard your RIB from the water is a challenge at the best of times! One solution is a folding step, for example the one illustrated below, fixed to the transom of your RIB.
